7 Healthy Kid-Approved Snacks

It’s back-to-school time, which means your kids are likely getting off the school bus tired and hungry. Before you reach for the box of Goldfish, consider this: Kids need the same combination of fiber, protein and fat in a snack that you do. This winning combination will keep your child full, focused and filled with energy. Here are seven healthy snacks guaranteed to please even the pickiest eaters; some even let your kids join in on the fun!

Healthy Taco Popcorn (pictured above)

Filled with fiber, popcorn makes for a surprisingly healthy snack. In this tasty version, chili powder, cumin, oregano and cayenne pepper come together to give the kernels a little kick. Dried nutritional yeast adds a yummy cheesy flavor and (bonus!) a dose of vitamin B12.

Oatmeal-Chocolate Snack Cakes

You can feel good about serving this healthy version of chocolate chip cookies. In this tasty recipe, whole-wheat pastry flour (which is filled with fiber) is subbed in for white flour. And the addition of rolled oats ups the fiber quotient even more. Replacing some of the butter with unsweetened applesauce helps lighten up these up without sacrificing flavor. Serve them with a glass of milk for a healthy kid-friendly snack!

Gluten-Free Cheesy Crackers

Move over, Goldfish. These cheesy crackers are way healthier — and they’ll have your kids asking for seconds! Using gluten-free flour means this snack will be gentler on little stomachs. And the addition of both cheddar and Parmesan cheese makes them extra cheesy. Let little ones join in on the fun by allowing them to roll out the dough or create shapes with a cookie cutter.

Puffed Rice Snowballs

Who says marshmallow treats can’t be healthy? In this good-for-you version, light agave syrup replaces regular sugar, and a minimal amount of butter is used. Plus, flax seeds and roasted sunflower seeds provide a healthy fiber boost.

Chocolate-Covered Banana Pops

This healthy snack is a great way to satisfy your child’s sweet tooth. Frozen bananas are dipped in antioxidant-rich dark chocolate and topped with finely chopped peanuts.

Peach Pie Smoothie

Got five minutes? Then you have plenty of time to whip up this delicious and filling smoothie. Simply blend nonfat plain yogurt with nonfat milk, frozen peaches, honey, vanilla and a few spices for a healthy snack that tastes like dessert!

Turkey Roll-Ups

Short on time? This healthy snack comes together in 10 minutes. Simply wrap pieces of lettuce, cucumber and red pepper in slices of lean turkey breast for a crunchy, protein-packed snack that’s sure to satisfy.
